Cleaner

We recognise our responsibility to protect the planet and are committed to minimising the impact we have on the environment. Through AMIEO Sustainability 2030, we are tackling global sustainability challenges through innovative local action.

Carbon Neutrality

Spearheading the company's global carbon neutrality commitments, aiming to achieve the target ahead of 2050.

  • Significantly reduce manufacturing carbon emissions by up to 57%, logistics carbon emissions by up to 30% and office energy consumption by up to 30% vs 2018 levels by 2030.

  • Our volume manufacturing plant in the UK will cut carbon emissions by more than half by 2030 (versus 2018) and aim to be carbon neutral by 2035.

  • Ramp up the use of renewable energy at all Nissan offices, manufacturing sites and warehouses in the region.

Electrifying society beyond EVs

As the pioneer of electrification, Nissan continues to champion sustainability though our sustainable energy solutions. By extending the lifecycle of our batteries, we embrace a true circular economy, reducing environmental impact and preserving natural resources. Nissan will also launch affordable on-board bi-directional charging on selected electric vehicles from 2026. Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology allows EV owners to use electricity stored in their car's battery to power their homes, or sell it back into the grid.

Resource Responsibly

Establish an innovative circular model in the region and promote the use of sustainable materials.

  • Increase the use of sustainable materials in all new cars through innovative research and partnerships and support our global ambition to have 40% sustainable materials (by weight) in new vehicles by 2030.

  • Establish a battery collection network in Europe, aiming to exceed 90% battery collection rate by 2030. We are already working with several partners in the UK and Nordic countries to collect, grade and recycle end-of-life batteries from EVs with further partnerships planned.

  • Reduce our waste at key manufacturing sites by up to 50%.

Responsible water usage

Responsible water usage is a priority for every entity in the region.

We are committed to enhancing water consumption and conservation practices and Nissan entities across AMIEO are working to minimise water use and manage wastewater quality to reduce risk.

Clean Air

Striving to deliver a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone.

    • Accelerate electrification plans in Europe with four new electric vehicles planned for Europe.

    • Beyond Europe, we aim to expand electrification across the region, bringing new electrified technologies and all-electric vehicles to new markets.

    • Make our EV ecosystem vision a reality starting in Europe. AC bi-directional capability will be available on all Nissan EVs by 2030 and we will commercialise vehicle-to-grid technology starting in the UK from 2026.

    • Implement new manufacturing solutions and materials in our vehicles to reduce VOC emissions from production, improve cabin air quality and reduce emissions of fine particulate matter from vehicle usage. Our UK Sunderland Plant is leading the way, aiming to perform at levels below EU and UK markets’ VOC emissions regulatory requirements.

Electrifying the Supply Chain

Bringing together a wealth of partners, Nissan Sunderland Plant has joined the Electric Freightway consortium to work together to transform sustainable freight logistics through deployment of eHGVs and high-power charging infrastructure. This initiative, the first of its kind in the UK, allows for the development of an electric, end-to-end supply chain - marking a major milestone in our EV36Zero vision to transform the plant into a flagship EV hub.
